Winter solstice,22 December 2013

       MERRY HOLIDAYS FOR ALL..................

Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.
Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
      confinement of your aloneness
                    to learn

            anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive

               is too small for you.

Fame is a fickle food (1702)

BY EMILY DICKINSON
Fame is a fickle food
Upon a shifting plate
Whose table once a
Guest but not
The second time is set
Whose crumbs the crows inspect
And with ironic caw
Flap past it to the
Farmer's corn
Men eat of it and die

And fall.

Sunday 8 September ,end of the summer

You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you.

Traveller, the road is only
your footprint, and no more;
traveller, there’s no road,
the road is your travelling.

FAITH

I want to write about faith,
about the way the moon rises
over cold snow, night after night,

faithful even as it fades from fullness,
slowly becoming that last curving and impossible
sliver of light before the final darkness.

But I have no faith myself
I refuse it even the smallest entry.

Let this then, my small poem,
like a new moon, slender and barely open,
be the first prayer that opens me to faith.

«là-haut tout est silence».

There’s a great story you may have heard of Buddha talking to his students and saying, “My teachings are only fingers pointing to the moon. Don’t get hung up on my fingers, look at the moon.” The real value of any work of art is the invisible, mysterious essence of life it points to—like that moon, not itself.

Put down the weight of your aloneness and ease into the conversation. The kettle is singing, even as it pours you a drink. The cooking parts have left their arrogant aloofness and seen the good in you at last. All the birds and the creatures of the world are unutterably themselves. ,

Sincere,without wax. 20 June 2013

To journey without being changed, is to be a nomad. To change without journeying is to be a chameleon. To journey and to be transformed by the journeying is to be a pilgrim.” Of course you know, we hear that and discover that, and I and everyone who reads that or hears that, we want to be the last one. We don’t want to be chameleon or the nomad, but the truth is, we’re all three, and we move among these things. This is part of our incarnation on earth.

Being open to life

In Your Company

Up early, my breath still

visible in the coffee, the stars

still conversing in their glitter

before our noise makes them

retreat. I feel the groove of my

awe. There is a comfort in this.

Up early, alone, standing on the

same shore as those before me;

staring at the same pins of light,

feeling the same ounce of wonder,

the way a small wave lapping at the

bottom of a cliff briefly feels every

small wave that has lapped

there before.

Nothing will warm you except your own walking,23 Mai

Your great mistake is to act the drama as if you’re alone

As if life were a progressive and cunning crime, with no witness to the tiny, hidden transgressions.

To be abandoned is to deny the intimacy of your surroundings. ,

Surely even you at times have felt the grand array and the surrounding presence and the chorus crowding out your solo voice. ,

You must note the way the soap dish enables you or the window latch grants you courage. Alertness is the hidden discipline of familiarity. ,

The stairs are the mentors of the things to come. The doors have always been there to frighten you and invite you. And the tiny speaker in the phone is your dream ladder to divinity. ,

Put down the weight of your aloneness and ease into the conversation. The kettle is singing, even as it pours you a drink. The cooking parts have left their arrogant aloofness and seen the good in you at last. All the birds and the creatures of the world are unutterably themselves. ,

Everything, everything, everything is waiting for you
